
Kate Veale is a British author illustrator who creates original characters and the worlds they live in. Her illustrations and stories always stimulate the imagination and are often educational. The originality and humour in the stunning illustrations appeal to all ages.
Kate researches her subject matter and her love of the natural world shines through her work. Her work often has hidden meaning and is full of beautiful detail and information. She has a great interest in protecting our Fragile Earth and showing it in context as a tiny speck in our Universe.
Kate has created several well- known character lines including Country Companions, Oliver Otter and Mr Moon.

Her books have been translated into several languages and are popular around the world.
Kate’s Mr Moon property has been animated as 52 television episodes and is shown by many Broadcasters around the world.
ART DIRECTOR
Kate has art directed dozens of different product categories, including different merchandised products. She was heavily involved in the production of the Mr Moon animated television series as the Art Director of the show, for which she produced hundreds of sketches and pages of instruction showing sets, characters and ideas, plus analyzing and correcting models.
MERCHANDISE AND LICENSING AND GREETINGS CARDS
Merchandising and licensing programs have also been a part of Kate’s life. She has worked with manufacturers and retailers including major multiples, like Boots, WHSmith, Safeway and Grattans, working with teams on designing products using her characters in very many categories:
Clothing, baby clothing, nightwear, underwear and socks, ceramics, stationery, plush toys, toiletries, bed-linen, nursery ware, figurines, resins – you name it!!
Kate has worked with many significant Greetings Cards publishers, having produced successful ranges in different styles: SHarpes Classic, Royle Publications, Accord, Paperhouse, Elgin Court, Gordon Fraser.
FINE ART
Kate’s work as a fine artist is the backbone to her beautiful illustrative work. Kate felt she had to analyse her subject matter, representing it in minute detail before being able to move on to represent it in a more stylised manner. She believes that most successful artworks capture life and soul. She was tutored by the English Fine Artist Rowland Hilder, who spotted her talent when he saw some of her early nature studies.
CURRENT
Kate has had a very busy few years and as well as working on the properties shown here she is working on several new character lines which she is looking forward to launching.
